Detoxification
Detoxification - Detox Dimensions
There’s a lot you hear and a lot you read about detox diets. Is it just a fad, a term that’s become the ‘in’ thing or is it something you need
to look at for life long health?
What exactly is detoxing all about?
Let’s take away the hype and look at it from a practical point of view.
The term is used to refer to the process of neutralizing or eliminating toxins from the system. This elimination is done through the skin, the
colon, the liver, the kidneys or the lymph glands.
When we keep piling our body with food, there is just no time to eliminate the toxins properly because the body is too busy caught up with the
business of digestion.
What most people do is to take in more calories than can be burned and utilized by the body. So it is logical that the body stores the
undigested mass as fat in the body. Together with the fat are toxins which cannot be neutralized or eliminated because of lack of time.
These comprise very often of the chemicals we tend to put in our body too – whether by way of drugs, smoking or even from the environment.
What happens then is obesity and an overload of toxins. The result? Disease, discomfort, weakness and maybe even death.
Fasting could be the answer
How do you stop the wheels of this toxification process from turning? Fasting is the answer. The moment you start fasting, the body starts
going to these fat reserves for energy. When this happens, the toxins are also released and they get flushed out of the system. Tests done on
sweat and urine have showed the presence of even DDT in the eliminated waste. However, fasting should be done with seriousness.
Going on a juice or a liquid diet for a few hours and thinking that one has achieved a lot is not the answer. The detoxification process
begins in real earnest only after a couple of days of fasting. The fat has to be broken down, the energy burned and the toxins flushed out.
This cleansing process is a long haul considering all the toxic substances we have put into our
bodies. So though you might start with a day’s fasting just to get the hang of it, a 3-day and then a 5 or up to 10
days fasting should be part of your life every four or five months.
Today, the only rest we give our bodies is the time we sleep. It means the body instead of resting too has to go into overdrive in order to do
however much of cleaning it can do.
Then of course, comes a greasy, heavy breakfast for most and so the never-ending cycle of overwork goes on. Just a little consideration for
your system and a little bit of care could ensure good health for life.
