Fasting Program
Fasting Program - Fasting Needs Preparation
If it’s just a one-off fast you’re thinking about, go right ahead and do it and feel good about it. But if fasting is going to become a way of
life for you, you need to be prepared. It means lifestyle changes, it means being disciplined, it means you need to organize the rest of the year
and hopefully many years to come.
The first thing you need to decide is when to fast. The early one and two day fasts need to be gotten out of the way at first as preparation
for what is to come. Then you need to look at your work, your festive days, holidays, etc and work out a fasting program. The ideal thing to do
of course would be to do a 5 to 10 day fast every time the season changed. So that would mean 4 good, deep fasts every year. Fasting works best
when it is done in regular cycles for a length of time.
When should we fast?
Why should fasting be seasonal? It really means going with Nature’s flow. If you were to observe
closely, people with problems like allergies, people who are susceptible to colds and coughs and aches and pains all seem to have their
conditions worsen during a season change. What better way to move smoothly into the next season than to fast and let your body have the strength
to cope with the change? Now this might not be very practical for many people, for whatever reason. In which case, plan your fast times
practically on your calendar.
Now for any regular fasting program, remember that it is always advisable to slowly slip into a fast, which means you don’t stuff yourself one
day and then go on a juice or water fast the next. For a couple of days before the fast, cut down on the heavy stuff. It would be best if you
knocked off the meats and went vegetarian for two days. You could also increase the intake of raw or slightly cooked, preferably steamed foods.
So what you do is to start giving the body a break so when you start your fast, the elimination of toxins can be done that much faster. And glug
down as much water as you can.
If you do have the time and the inclination, fasting with a group is usually very successful. Somehow, everyone supports each other and there
are fewer chances of temptation and of cheating. So if you can get away with friends at least twice a year for maybe five days – that could be
three days and a weekend – do that and you’ll find that it soon becomes a routine. Getting away also helps because you are not constantly
bombarded with ads and tempting shop-shelf displays to tempt you.
If you can have an enema, it hastens the elimination process. You might have to scrub and cleanse your skin a little more than usual what with
all those toxins being excreted but rest assured after a few days, your skin will glow like a baby’s. Now if that is not reason enough to plan a
fasting program, what is?
